Tidy? I’d disagree. If we linger for one moment longer, we notice a few telling things.
First of all, his shirt has one collar tucked into his sweater, and one out. Second, the papers on his lap are a total mess. Third, you can tell his eye-glasses are not prescription — a bit grey at the temples for play. Fourth, the outward-facing handle of his brief-case says, “Baggage.”
In other words, when we look just beyond that first impression, we see the picture of a man who’s actually a bit of a mess.
