I think to understand this we need to conceptualize the Luke/ Snoke story as a spiritual battle.

At an abstract level, it’s the same pattern introduced with Anakin/ Vader, and playing out with Ben/ Kylo.

This pattern resonates with us, metaphorically and metaphysically, because the ultimate battle is not against Snoke, or the darkness in Snoke’s heart, but with the darkness in your own heart.
